Assistant General Manager

About our Organization

The Calgary Folk Club is a non-profit music organization, and Calgary’s longest-standing premiere folk music venue, passionately providing high-quality concert experiences in Calgary for over 50 years. We are currently looking for an Assistant General Manager to be a part of a dedicated team of music lovers.

About this position

As the Assistant General Manager, you will work directly with and support the General Manager in ensuring the success of the club in venue operations, management, and administration. You will experience a unique perspective into what goes on behind the scenes to make professional concert experiences a reality, and receive access to all music events.

Hours per week: variable, 5-15

Term of volunteering: 1 year commitment minimum

In-person, remote, hybrid: Hybrid. Must reside in or near Calgary, Alberta.

Transportation: Venue is accessible by public transit, however a driver’s license and reliable vehicle are recommended.

Responsibilities: Assist the general manager in Club operations, including venue operations, administration, including licensing and funding applications

  • Effective time management and organizational skills.
  • Attentive to details and able to analyze data and make informed decisions.
  • Able to navigate contracts, permits, insurance, certifications, financial documents and reports. 
  • Must have reliable means of transportation and be willing to travel. 
  • Must work well independently and as a team.
  • Must be comfortable with Google Suite, Zoom, word processing, spreadsheets
  • Experience in preparing grant applications helpful
  • Adaptable, versatile, and responsive.

Social Media Coordinator

We are currently looking for a volunteer Social Media Coordinator to be a part of a dedicated team of music lovers.

About this position

As our Social Media Coordinator, you will be responsible for creating and scheduling online posts, engaging with relevant accounts and followers, and collecting data and offering insights across our social media platforms. You will attend concert events and help capture and share what the Club experience and its people are all about through effective social media storytelling, execute existing Club social media content plans, and contribute your own creative social media strategies in line with current trends and the Club’s vision and values.

Hours per week: 5-10

Term of volunteering: 1 year commitment minimum

In-person, remote, hybrid: Hybrid. Must reside in or near Calgary, Alberta.

Transportation: Venue is accessible by public transit, however a driver’s license and reliable vehicle are recommended.

Responsibilities: Reporting to the Board of Directors, you will use social media platforms to advertise upcoming events and artists, promotional offers and Club announcements, plan and create photo and video social media posts in line with the Club’s mission and values, and ensure that the Club’s online presence is active and engaging. You will use analytics and social media insights to measure the effectiveness of social media campaigns and adjust strategies as needed to maximize engagement and reach.

  • Effective oral and written communication skills 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills 
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team 
  • Strong organizational skills and an ability to keep on top of workload 
  • Able to commit to one year with the organization

Marketing Director

We are currently looking for a Marketing Director to join our working Board and be a part of a dedicated team of music lovers.

About this position

We are looking for a marketing director who is innovative, enthusiastic, and excited about sharing the premium live music experience that the Calgary Folk Club has to offer. The successful candidate will assist in creating marketing and advertising campaigns and strategies  to sell season pass and individual tickets, recruit volunteers, identify and build strategic partnerships, direct social media and online presence, compile and present relevant analytics, and promote and expand the Club’s livestream concert delivery goals. The marketing director would represent and further expand upon the Club’s mission to existing and new target audiences.

Hours per week: 4-6 hours, plus concert events (12 each season) and monthly board meetings.

Term of volunteering: 1 year commitment minimum.

In-person, remote, hybrid: Hybrid. Must reside in or near Calgary, Alberta.

Transportation: Venue is accessible by public transit, however a driver’s license and reliable vehicle are recommended.

Responsibilities: Reporting to the Board of Directors, you will coordinate the marketing efforts of the Club to advertise upcoming events and artists, promotional offers and Club announcements, plan and direct social media strategies in line with the Club’s mission and values, and ensure that the Club’s marketing presence is active and engaging. You will use analytics and social media insights to measure the effectiveness of social media campaigns and adjust strategies as needed to maximize engagement and reach, create relationships with key partners and businesses in the greater Calgary region, and coordinate with the Board to expand upon the delivery of the Club’s in-person and virtual offerings.

Club Cashier

We are currently looking for a Club Cashier to join our team and be a part of a dedicated team of music lovers.

About this position

We are looking for a club cashier who is innovative, enthusiastic, and excited about sharing what the Calgary Folk Club has to offer. 

Hours per week: 4-6 hours, plus concert events (12 each season)

Term of volunteering: 1 year commitment minimum.

In-person, remote, hybrid: Hybrid. Must reside in or near Calgary, Alberta.

Transportation: Venue is accessible by public transit, however a driver’s license and reliable vehicle are recommended.

Responsibilities: Reporting to the Treasurer, you will coordinate the payments and collections on concert dates, recording cash sales and disbursements, POS, and other duties as required.
