Big Summer News from the Calgary Folk Club: Meet Ken, Hear Our Plans, and Take the Survey!
Hello friends! We hope you’re enjoying a fabulous summer. While you’ve been soaking up sunshine and music, we’ve been busy behind the scenes at the Calgary Folk Club, working on exciting projects to make your experience with us even better.
One of the best things that’s happened? Welcoming Ken DeWyn to our Board of Directors.
Meet Ken DeWyn – Our New Vice President
Ken joined us in March and has been a driving force in several major initiatives. His journey to the Folk Club started in the most organic way possible—by coming to a show.
“I knew one of the performers,” Ken says, “but it wasn’t just that. It was the environment, the music, the people—it was such a great experience. Then Suze went on stage and said, ‘Hey, we’re looking for board members.’ A little light went off in my head and I thought, I’d love to be part of this.”
We’re glad he listened to that little light! With a background in non-profit management and the arts, Ken has hit the ground running.
Powered by Grants and Vision
Thanks to two generous grants from the Rozsa Foundation, we’ve been able to take big steps forward:
- Future Focus – This initiative is all about succession planning and ensuring the club stays strong for years to come. With one-third of live event venues closing post-COVID, we’re determined not to become part of that statistic.
- Audience Development – The goal? Not just to keep our current audience engaged, but to bring new people into the magic of live folk music—including younger generations and those who may not even know the Calgary Folk Club exists (yet!).
Help Shape the Future – Take Our Survey!
We rolled out a city-wide live music survey—not just to our own members, but at events like the Calgary Folk Festival and Canmore Folk Festival.
We want to know:
- How do people discover us?
- What do they love about live music?
- What could make the experience even better?
The survey takes only about 5-10 minutes and adapts based on whether you’re a season pass holder, occasional attendee, or festival-goer. Let’s keep the Calgary Folk Club thriving—for this generation and the next.
